About the Role:
The Agricultural/Horticultural Engineer (m/f/d) conducts activities in crop selection, crop experiments, substrate evaluation, germination, propagation and fertilizing.
What You’ll Do:
Manage within a strong team daily operations regarding seeding, transplanting, and harvesting crops to support our &ever vertical farms as necessary for the operation to be successful
Evaluate and analyse field data and information generated in our &ever vertical farms precisely documenting findings and conclusions from an agricultural/horticultural point of view
Cooperate closely with external seed and soil producers to select and develop products which perfectly match our vertical farming requirements
Support us in building up a unique database on vertical farming know-how including documentation on trial procedures, selection criteria and plant characteristics
Communicate regularly to the Engineer Applied Plant Biotechnology Team Lead about the general operation of the facilities and programs
Communicate and mediate concerns regarding the systems operational integrity or functioning that jeopardizes the operation of the system
Work closely with student interns so they derive the full benefit of an internship in vertical farming
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in plant or social science, horticulture, environmental science, agriculture, biosystems engineering or a related field; OR the equivalent professional experience in greenhouse management, horticulture, or relevant crop production methods.
Experience maintaining greenhouse agriculture systems or vertical farm operations; Strong knowledge of either hydroponic systems or crop production (leaf crops) in controlled environments preferred.
Experience working with vertical farming (hydroponic, aquaponic, etc) methods preferred.
Building, constructing, plumbing, HVAC and/or general maintenance experience
Understanding of safety protocols for food crops, basic biosecurity measures.
Ability to learn the skills necessary to effectively manage both aquaculture systems and
hydroponic crop production methods in a vertical farm production environment.
Humble, teachable, team-player who is enthusiastic and hard-working.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
